Phil Ivey posts bail for Wei Seng Phua and son

One might be tempted to believe that since Phil Ivey is going through so many legal problems himself, he will be less concerned about what fellow poker players are going through. This couldn’t be farther from the truth, because despite the fact that he’s yet to solve his two lawsuits that are still pending regarding the baccarat charges, Ivey found the time and money to help a friend in need.checkraise

One month ago, Caesars Palace in Las Vegas notified the police about the fact that Wei Seng “Paul” Phua was running an illegal poker ring. Apparently, the poker professional use the casino premises to set up this illegal activity and as a result, the Caesars Palace representatives had no choice but to inform the authorities. There are no charges pending against the casino itself, but the poker Pro and his son as well as a friend was taken into custody.

It was obvious from the very beginning that the bail will be set at a staggering amount and it is exactly what happened, with Wei Seng “Paul” Phua being expected to pay $2.5 million. Luckily for him, Andrew Robl and Phil Ivey decided to pay this amount and as a result he was freed from custody, together with his son. The allegations are still being investigated and the rich poker Pro from Malaysia will need to stand in front of a judge to fight those charges.

The third man arrested as a result of the authorities’ incursion at the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas goes by the name of Hui Tang. He is one of the poker players in his entourage, but for the time being, only the father and son are out of jail. It paid off that they befriended Phil Ivey back in the day when they competed in highroller tournaments in Macau, where they got the chance to meet the poker Pro.

Phil tells everybody that he considers them as personal friends and as a result he found no problem in paying a lot of money to see them release. The risks of flight are relatively low, so the odds of Phil actually losing his money are slim to none, but even so, his act of kindness didn’t go unnoticed. Andrew was more reluctant to talk about the reasons that compelled him to post a part of the bail, but it is only fair to assume that he is in good relations with the Phua family.
